Sky Bet EFL Championship predictions

Derby v Swansea

Kick-off: 3:00pm (BST) Saturday 10 August 2019

Venue: Pride Park, Derby

There was a fair amount of doom and gloom around Derby over the summer given the loss of Frank Lampard to Chelsea. In truth though, and as harsh as this may sound, Lampard did only finish 6th with Derby, and with considerably better players than Gary Rowett had the year before when they also finished 6th.

The better players were obviously the youngsters that Lampard had loaned in from Premier League clubs. Considering they are no longer there, a win at Huddersfield shows Derby still have something about them.  There is now of course also the Wayne Rooney factor to consider.  He could have a massive impact at this level.

Swansea got a great win last weekend but they continue to lose their better players so we fancy Derby here.

Result prediction: Derby home win (Best odds: 13/10 with Betway)

Correct score prediction: 1-0 (Best odds: 29/4 with Sportingbet)

West Brom v Millwall

Kick-off: 3:00pm (BST) Saturday 10 August 2019

Venue: The Hawthorns, West Birmingham

Two teams that got great wins in the opening weekend, but we are siding with the home side here.

Slaven Bilic looks to be a shrewd appointment from West Brom’s perspective. He has managed at much higher levels than the Championship and in truth, has generally done a decent job wherever he has worked before.

A very impressive win at Notts Forest last time out will add to a good ‘feel good factor’ around the Hawthorns for their first home game of the season.

We can’t dismiss Millwall given their home win against Preston last weekend, but West Brom should have too much for them.

Result prediction: West Brom home win (Best odds: 23/25 with Royal Panda)

Correct score prediction: 2-0 (Best odds: 9/1 with Sportingbet)

Sky Bet EFL League Two predictions

Plymouth v Colchester

Kick-off: 3:00pm (BST) Saturday 10 August 2019

Venue: Home Park, Plymouth

Plymouth had a great start to the season winning 3-0 away from home to go top of the table.

They have well and truly exploited the troubles at Bury by bringing in a host of new players and even a new manager during the summer.  These were players and a manger who got promoted from League 2 last season, despite all the now (far too obvious) off the field issues that were going on around them.

Colchester got a point last weekend, but Plymouth (or as they are now being referred to: “the Bury of the South”) should be too strong for them here.

Result prediction: Plymouth home win (Best odds: 23/20 with Coral)

Correct score prediction: 2-0 (Best odds: 21/1 with Sportingbet)

Swindon to beat Carlisle

Kick-off: 3:00pm (BST) Saturday 10 August 2019

Venue: County Ground, Swindon

Two teams that got great wins last week, so always tough calling a game such as this. We are solely going to focus therefore on Swindon.

Not only was their result arguably the most impressive League 2 result last weekend, winning away at much fancied newly relegated Scunthorpe, but Swindon have also done some really good business in the summer.

We are expecting a strong season from them after what was in terms of league positioning, their worst season in living memory last time out.

Result prediction: Swindon home win (Best odds: 21/20 with Boyle Sports)

Correct score prediction: 2-1 (Best odds: 33/4 with Sport Nation)
